Independent completions benchmarking. Field-proven wellsite supervision.

Two practice lines, one standard: verified work you can defend in the room where the money gets approved. Fifteen years in completions, from the design desk to the spread.

Practice line one: completions benchmarking

Is your frac design competitive for your bench, and can you prove it?

The completion is 60-70% of an $8M well’s cost, and every opinion in the room is compromised: service companies sell chemicals and horsepower, and the data platforms sell a firehose and leave the interpretation to you. We sell the answer, built from verified public data and delivered as a written, data-verified opinion you can put in front of partners, boards, and banks.

What a verified basin dataset actually buys you

Defend the AFE.Walk into the partner or board review with bench-matched medians and operator trajectories: numbers that survive the meeting where the money gets approved, not vendor brochures.
Push back on the upsell.Your service company will always recommend a bigger frac. When they do, you’ll have an independent, verified answer on whether the basin’s results agree, and what the escalation is actually worth.
Catch the drift early. The Converse County bench moved +89% in three years. A quarterly benchmark means you find out the quarter it moves, not at the offset’s production review.
Enter a basin on day one.New entrants (including whoever takes over the Devon PRB position now under strategic review) get the county’s design landscape, bench by bench, without hiring a data team.
Diligence an asset.PE firms and banks get an independent read on whether an operator’s designs are competitive, behind the curve, or leaving oil in the ground, before the deal closes instead of after.
The math is not close. One percent of one well’s completion cost is more than five times the price of a rapid benchmark. The expensive option is designing behind the curve.
WhatPrice
1.Converse County sample benchmark reportFree
2.Rapid benchmark: one county, one question, 2-week turnaround$5-8K
3.Quarterly basin benchmark subscription: refresh + data review calls$20-30K/yr
4.Program benchmarking review: your designs against the audited basin dataset$45K+

The verification methodology ports to any county in any basin, from the DJ to the Williston to the Permian, on a two-week build. Not a subscription platform, not day-rate hours, not a dashboard. And never a vendor: no referral fees, no sponsorships, ever.

Verified today, and what’s in build

Verified today: the complete design layer: 314 disclosed jobs in Converse County alone, built from the live FracFocus portal and validated against official per-well disclosure PDFs, spot-checked to the pound. Operator activity, design trajectories, proppant/fluid intensity, bench-by-bench splits, water sourcing.

In build: state-filed well-level production (WOGCC Form 2) linked to designs, plus directional-survey and Form 3 completion-report detail, turning “what everyone designs” into pounds-per-foot and “what actually worked,” with confidence levels stated plainly. Charter subscribers get it first.

Built for independent operators whose completions engineer wears five hats, new basin entrants who need the design landscape on day one, and PE firms and banks doing technical diligence.

Proof, not promises: the work is done

Converse County, Wyoming: the bench moved. Did you?

Every disclosed frac job in the county since 2023, verified against primary disclosures and joined well-by-well to production. The headline: the median job grew from 20.2M to 38.1M lbs of proppant in three years (+89%), and it holds at +86% within the Niobrara bench alone, so it is design behavior, not bench mix. A 2023-template design now sits below the county median before you ever pick up a blender.

What the sample study shows, in plain numbers:

  • Two design worlds, one county. Deep Niobrara/Mowry jobs run 19-30M lbs; shallow Shannon/Turner/Parkman run 9-12M. A 3.5x spread. Any benchmark that isn’t bench-matched is a number you can’t design against.
  • Concentration, not just volume. Loading intensity stepped from 1.16 to ~1.65 lb/gal (+42%) and held. That check doesn’t care how long the laterals got.
  • The invisible leader. The operator posting the county’s best median peak-month oil has zero FracFocus presence. The dataset shows who is visible and who isn’t.
  • The data trap. The FracFocus bulk extract blanks proppant for entire operators. Built from the wrong file, your benchmark is wrong with confidence. Ours is built from the live portal and spot-checked to the pound.

Every figure is auditable to its source row. The companion workbook ships with client engagements.

Practice line two: wellsite supervision

Execution is where the money is made.

The spread is the most expensive classroom in the oilfield. One avoided non-productive day on a frac spread covers weeks of supervision. One avoided incident is priceless. River & Rocks puts fifteen years of completions execution on your location.

15Years in completions

  • Frac execution oversight, stage by stage: wireline, pumpdown, and pumping schedule adherence, verified against the design in real time
  • Vendor coordination: service companies, water, sand, chemicals, and logistics pulled in the same direction
  • Safety leadership: a career zero-LTI record across $300MM+ of supervised program spend
  • Cost control: daily reporting your office can actually use, and a field advocate who reads invoices the way a completions person reads them

Contract clients: Enerplus, 2018-2024 · Missouri River Resources, 2024-25 · Bakken, Powder River, DJ, Uinta, and Permian programs · continuous contract supervision since 2018.

Built for operators running completions programs who need proven leadership on location: full-program supervision, frac-to-frac coverage, or execution support when your team is stretched.

Why you can trust a number from us

Every figure survives an audit, or it doesn’t ship

Public data is free. Trustworthy public data is labor. Our datasets are built from primary disclosures, validated against official per-well records, and delivered with the joins and caveats stated openly, so nothing we publish requires taking our word for anything.

Primary sources first.Datasets are built from the live FracFocus disclosure portal and state filings, not from bulk extracts, which we have documented blanking proppant fields for entire operators.
Spot-checked to the pound.Official per-well disclosure PDFs are pulled and reconciled against the compiled dataset; sample wells matched exactly.
Joins stated plainly.Well-level joins are made on API-10 numbers, with match rates printed in the report: 285 of 314 disclosures matched in Converse, 91%, with the reasons for the remainder named.
Limits printed, not buried.Where public data runs out (lateral length is the current example), the report says so, says why, and says what closes the gap. If we can’t verify it, we don’t print it.

About

Fifteen years on both sides of the fence line

River & Rocks LLC is the independent practice of Luke Trivisonno, completions engineer by training, company man by trade, based in Bozeman, Montana. Fifteen years designing and supervising completions across the Bakken, Powder River, DJ, Uinta, Permian, and Marcellus basins: seven years as a completions consultant on operator programs, then continuous contract supervision and consulting since 2018 for Enerplus and Missouri River Resources.

WVU petroleum engineering and economics. EIT. Programs totaling $300MM+ supervised without a lost-time incident. The benchmarking practice exists because the analysis that used to take a data team now takes a dataset, and because the only opinion in the room without something to sell you is the independent one.

“Luke consistently showed what it takes to be a top company representative. Strong leadership, clear communication, and genuine care for colleagues and clients, every day.”Field reference, completions program. Further references on request.
